Build a cohesive brand around your project(s) and product
Not only to you want to make sure people know about your open source project, you want to make sure that there is a cohesive narrative that ties together your project and your product.
You need to position your project intentionally, you need to position your product(s) intentionally, and you need to position your entire company intentionally, in a way that includes both project and product. Each of those things also needs a narrative that is created with intention, too.
The best way to think about how your open source project is as you would think of one product in a company with multiple products. You need to have a cohesive story about the entire company, but each product has a slightly different target market and value proposition. That’s how you should think about your open source project and how it fits with your commercial product(s).
