What's your community's value prop?

How much thought have you put into why people join your community and how you can establish GTM fundamentals for your community? I gave a talk on the topic last week for the London Devreller’s Meetup, also as part of DevRelCon. If you’re working on building out a community and are struggling to talk to people about it and/or aren’t sure what kind of events would be appropriate, definitely check it out. I mainly talk about how you need to think about your community as a product, one with its own value proposition, its own competitive alternatives and pain points it solves. The key to building really strong community is understanding how the community adds value above and beyond the value of the product.

I’m doing another virtual event tomorrow, on positioning for DevTools and open source startups, with the DevTech Marketing Pros group. The people who will get max benefit out of the talk are those building an open source DevTool company, as I’ll talk about the positioning challenges unique to those type of companies and how to overcome them.
