Positioning Workshop
For Early stage open source Startups
This workshop is for open source startups that have an open source project with users but do not yet have any commercial offerings. If you’re unsure how to describe your open source project, how to clarify the types of users who get the most value from your project or how to fit your product in customers’ workflow and tech stack, this workshop is for you.
This virtual workshop for the leadership team is conducted for two hours per day over four consecutive days. Before the workshop starts, I’ll interview 3-5 of your best-fit open source project users to discover how they describe your project and the pain points it solves. We’ll use the information from those interviews, as well as insights from the leadership team, to clarify:
What market category would make your unique features shine
What your most enthusiastic users have in common and how to focus your evangelism efforts on organizations that share those characteristics
What your true competitors are, from the perspectives of actual users
The primary value your project delivers, from the perspective of your most loyal users
At the end of the workshop, you will have clarity on which market category to position your open source project in, how to talk to potential users, press and partners about the project, and how to focus evangelism efforts. This is also the first step towards identifying the best monetization strategy, given your project’s strengths, weaknesses and current user profile.
The investment for a positioning workshop is $20,000.
