If you're open source, why aren't you talking about it?

If you’re an open source startup, it should never be hard for someone to figure out it out.

If your ‘free’ version is actually an open source project, not a closed-source free tier, that should be obvious.

A GitHub link isn’t enough, especially if it’s buried at the bottom of the page.

If open source is a massive part of your identity as a company, you need to let people know about it!

Surprisingly often, open source startups don’t really advertise their ‘openness.’ The words ‘open source’ don’t appear on the home page, let alone above the scroll.

If you’re not telling anyone about your relationship with open source, you’re missing an opportunity. What is the point of having an open source project if you’re not talking about it? Why do you want to be an open source startup in the first place?

Whatever your open source strategy is, it depends on people knowing that you have an open source project and understanding how that project is related to your commercial project. So don’t hide that information.
